On 5 October 1967, the Australian and Turkish Governments signed a bilateral agreement regarding the movement to Australia of Turkish citizens for the purposes of residence and employment. In November 1968, the first group of assisted passage migrants to arrive in Melbourne from Turkey were enthusiastically welcomed by Turks from Cyprus who had previously settled in Victoria.
Much of the work of Moreland Turkish Association is about recording and documenting the history of the Turkish community. From time to time, we will add new material to this web site. We would also welcome stories and photographs from members of the community.
